Our Story


Tim Carter is a banjo/mandolin/harmonica playing singer/songwriter/guitarist who performs around the world. In addition to the Carter Brothers Band and his own Tim Carter Band, he has been touring and recording with Hayseed Dixie since 2016. Tim, a native North Carolinian, has the rich musical heritage of the Carter Family running deep in his veins. His banjo style, described as “Rain running through the trees,” is progressive, but with traditional roots.

Tim was in the Carter Brothers Band with his brother, Danny Carter, for the past 30 years. The band release several records. The latest, “The Road to Roosky,” on Compass Records, gained a lot of attention. Tim and Danny created their own brand of groovingappalacianfolkrockfunkedupbluegrassgypsybluesmusic, playing world wide with much success. Tim continues that style of playing, true blues roots music—occasionally playing bluegrass to show that he is from North Carolina—but the blues is the basis of what he does.

Accompanying Tim in the Tim Carter Band are world class musicians… drummer Dann Sherrill, bassist Drake Leonard and guitarist Michael McAdam.


Mike McAdam plays electric guitar and is a songwriter.. Mike has been in bands, toured and recorded with Steve Earle and the Dukes, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bruce Springsteen. Sarah Evans, Radney Foster, Delbert Mclinton, Chris Knight... he has played every major TV show there is... he is known as one of the best guitarist in Nashville.

Drake Leonard plays bass... he's been in Nashville for over 30 years. Drake has been in bands with Ricky Van Shelton, David Ball, Chris Knight and has toured with Kenny Rogers and too many to count.. he's a great singer and just one of the best in Nashville period.

Dann Sherrill plays drums / percussion. Dann has been in Nashville for over 30 years.. he toured and recorded with Steve Winwood, Engelbert Humperdinck, Mel Tillis, Mose Alison, Mike Ferris and tons more... he has produced instructional videos on Latin Percussion... he's also know as one of the Drum Masters of Nashville.
